I used to get windowsill putty and put it on cheap pots, then my excavated treasures would be carefully stuck into the putty. The adorned containers would become presents for special people in my life. I was incredibly proud of them. I could never bring myself to stick the sovereign into putty though. It was in mint condition, and today is in the capable hands of my daughter!
A while ago I was looking at some photos I'd taken on Flinders Island, one of my favorite places in the world. One thing I particularly love are the amazing rocks there. No doubt millions of years ago they had formed after an enormous volcanic eruption, coupled with the rising of the land from the sea. Something caught my eye as I wistfully looked at these magnificent rocks. Was I actually looking at an enormous fossil?
There's so much to see every day and yet we miss things, those of us who are fortunate enough to have eyes that see.
A tree isn't just a tree, or a plant just a plant, but a host or shield for animals, reptiles and insects. They are all masters at hiding in plain sight.
Let's also not forget the humans who have learned to do the same. Their reasons are usually to either evade the law, become a secret predator, or to protect themselves.
