You may recall in 2016 my one and only pineapple plant gave us a gift of a sweet little fruit. Well, that's that, I thought. Shame it didn't produce any suckers afterwards, so that I could have had more to plant!
Something niggled at me though. Why hadn't it procreated and produced baby plants? Pineapples don't just produce a pineapple then die. They are usually compelled to produce more pineapple plants first. |
I resolved just to keep giving it the occasional drink of water. Then one day, to my amazement a fairly good sized plantlet appeared between the leaves! I hadn't even noticed it developing. When it grew to about 4” a twist, and a pull separated it from the mother plant. If I hadn't done this there definitely wouldn't be any more infant pineapples!
Summer's just coming to a definite close in our Northern hemisphere. Did you manage to try my pineapple beer recipe for your cooling summer drink? Waste not, want not, as we used to say, and this is the perfect way to use your pineapple peelings!
