You only realise this when your wifi hot spot disappears, as it occasionally does, and then you feel like your world has been cut off. And it has...your rapid communication has gone, poof!
Even families have changed. As everyone's become busier with the fast life, and children have grown immersed in technology, there's a whole older generation who've been left behind.
Sadly, I hear them refer to themselves as "old farts" and "the new illiterates." Their feelings of self worth often weaken in the face of being swamped by a technological world that they struggle to understand.
There's a big segment of our population, a generation who until now were respected for their knowledge and skills...their amazing resourcefulness, and abilities to patiently craft wonderful, high quality products. Unlike the mass produced stuff you see every day, these lovely handicrafts are heirlooms, to be treasured and handed down in families.
Many still continue to produce their beautiful works, but either stow them away, or just make things for family.
Ironically, they're on fixed incomes, and they'd love to sell some of their treasures, but how do they do that, when they just don't understand how the internet works, and they're constantly hearing dreadful tales of scams? Better just to leave the whole thing, they think.
I've written about this before http://warnerwords.weebly.com/vickis-spin/how-should-seniors-sell-their-work, and now, thanks to the online partnership with femmeflashpoint, my webmaster colleague and good friend, it looks like things might change a little! We've both been working on helping some fabulous senior artisans to actually have their own website. Within this, they will each have their own pages with their own virtual shoppe. The website's name is Senior Artisans Web Shoppe and you can CLICK HERE to visit it.
There’s nothing like having a website to increase your learning of how the brave new world of the Internet works. I'm still learning a lot, as we all do, but to see some seniors gradually extend their horizons and at the same time learn new ways of marketing their unique products is just plain heart warming.
Christmas is coming!
She’s unveiling her art slowly. For now, only three exclusive gorgeous pins each week. As they go, others will take their place, so keep checking her page on the senior artisans site!
Team these beauties with latest trendy items like cowls and endless scarves , or make them the focal talking point of so many outfits. Easy pay with PayPal, another milestone of learning how it all works! CLICK HERE to read some interesting info about it from femmeflashpoint.
And as soon as Kay has received your payment she’ll be carefully packaging and sending off your lovely jewelry in time for Christmas!
If you are, or know of a talented, arty senior who’d like to join this international website for selling their wares, you're encouraged to email and apply through the Contact Me page on the new site!
