We’ve had a week of really wild weather here. One after the other violent wind and rain storms lashed our coast and caused major destruction in many areas. Every now and then I'd look out from the sunroom. It seemed inconceivable my covered vegetable bed would survive this onslaught. But it did. Even as huge trees crashed down, others were flattened by the gale force winds, ferry sailings were canceled, that humble little raised bed seemed impervious to all the drama.

Sticker shock!
Don't know if you've noticed something different at your supermarket lately? It seems to me those prices for fresh products have taken a gigantic leap! Talk about sticker shock! I'm finding my pockets need to be much deeper than they actually are! I'm remembering the words of one of our town councilors during the drought earlier on in the year. He remarked that backyard gardens aren't really of any commercial importance; you could go to the supermarket and buy all the produce you need for very little.

My sunroom and raised beds truly give me so much more than the means to grow and harvest our own food of various types. They fill my heart and spirit with a daily sense of thankfulness and fascinated joy. I know this is something only gardeners love, so please forgive me, the nons!
Doing the count down with the short, dark days now. The winter solstice is within believable range.
Wishing you a wonderful joyous week ahead.
