“I want some of that...”
It's an attitude, not something you can buy, but something you can readily learn if you hang out with the right people. Those optimists just seem to have a sublime faith that things will improve in life. They're the ones who teach by example, and fortunately there are lots of them wherever you look.
Recently, by chance as I looked up a knitting pattern on YouTube, I became distracted by one of the most amazing examples of hope, optimism and passion that is inspirational even after 10 years.
Others can't ruin optimism!
Bullying was a part of her life. But so was a love of music, and she loved singing. She had eternal optimism, even though the local church choir wouldn't accept her. Surely her day would come some day? So she sang in the local pub, and for small local events.
Later, she devoted her life to caring for her aging parents, until they both passed away. They had all lived in a little council house in a tiny Scottish village. It was a lonely home without them, but she continued small-time singing anyway. It was how her mother had always believed Susan would succeed.
She always hoped though, that she would be able to become a professional singer. She entered 11 talent competitions, and had no luck with any of them. Most of them didn’t even pass her as being worthy of an audition. The twelfth attempt was on Britains G T.
On the day of her audition she dressed carefully according to her standards. She didn't tell anyone of her plan. Susan caught the wrong bus, but retraced her journey and finally made it to the venue.
The rest is the beginning of one of the most startling histories in life, captured on this audition tape. If you want a beautiful demonstration of optimism and hope, take seven minutes of your time to view for the first time, or renew your own inspiration by delighting in it again.
Her life became an open book, and her story is readily available on YouTube. Susan continues to live in her original council house, and still goes to the local pub with her now-adoring friends. This, in spite of her busy schedule, her global trips and concerts.
But the video that distracted me is this one. It shows the respectfulness of those fortunate enough to work with her, and how optimism and hope work together, bringing confidence and new opportunities. She’s brought hope for everyone in so many countries in the world, and so many people who needed to know that dreams do come true, if you act upon your hopes.
