Women are notorious for their ability to reach out to each other for support and enjoyment. Males tend to stoically do their own thing. They'll watch with scratch-your-head amazement as their female counterparts unhesitatingly abandon them in favour of gleefully meeting up with a bunch of girlfriends.
It's a beautiful drive from Sechelt to Gibsons! It's pure escapism! I play my music.
So early in the morning on Tuesdays there is a ceremonial powering-down on this computer! The excitement builds, as off I go, up the winding road to the Gibsons District Public Library in the lovely village of Gibsons. At 1000 sharp they open the doors to several women, all carrying bags of some sort, full of yarn and knitting paraphernalia.
Where We Knit!
The library has a beautiful room with a view over the marina, and that's where the knitters gather. The library staff willingly provide an endless supply of tea and coffee. They’ve backed this project from the beginning.
Little squares, sewn together . . .
Their little squares are not much to look at on their own. But when put together, artfully, aesthetically and expertly by our dear Lily - they become practical, beautiful blankets for the homeless, or anyone in need.
The helping hands of many
The ongoing project we work on consists of women knitting 6" squares from donated yarns of various weights and colours. The name of our group is Knitting a Community.
This group of women is only a small representation of what is actually happening in the knitting world up and down the Sunshine coast. Not all women can actually physically attend, but they can all knit at home, and send or have their squares picked up.
Lots of chatting, laughter and a little knitting, before we all set out to donate 10 blankets to a children's charity.
Our thanks to the Blackfish Pub for giving us a free and delicious meal in return for the donation, so that was a wonderful appreciation!
Finished blankets - Yahoo!
Every child loves a blanket . . .
We’ve all heard about magic carpets. Maybe we underestimate the power of a blanket made by loving hands.
A quick reminder!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
