The final DVD we watch, the culmination of it all, is a truly wonderful interpretation of Handel’s Messiah. This is not by any means a light-hearted work.
It's a three-part oratorio, (similar to an opera, except the focus is just on the actors and the music with no scenery involved.) The copy we have is conducted by the legendary Sir Neville Marriner.
When Handel decided to compose this gigantically complex work, he completed it in less than 6 weeks! Remember, there was no availability of the technology we enjoy at that time - no computers, no ability to do anything except obtain paper, a pen and tell the family to “leave Dad in peace while he works.”
This formula seems to have worked well in those days of the master composers!
Looking forward!
Looking back!
One of the highlights was a visit from my friend and colleague, femmeflashpoint of flashPress. We enjoyed a great two weeks together, traveling, chatting, planning, and are still both feeling the after effects of it all in a really good way.
Catching up
I'm hoping it means that for you too. My heartfelt thanks for your support this year, and my very best thoughts to you for a lovely Christmas.
My Monday pig digging will be back on Monday, December 28th!
