I've noticed many people love to eat at buffets. I've also noticed many people who eat at them tend to be very big people. But it doesn't end there. People just seem to get bigger and bigger.
You see them at big box stores too that offer little samples of their food products as those customers shop. I actually heard a guy say to his beloved, “I'm taking you out to lunch today..” Then seeing her surprised look, he added quickly, “at Costco!” |
Young brides used to worry about having a sylph like waist for the wedding. That's gone by the board now. It's often about squishing a plump body into an unflattering strapless dress, rolls and all, for the big day. Those dresses are expensive too! A new norm of fat brides has slowly developed.
I have a set of "The Joy Of Cooking." These are classic books. They've been around forever, not changing much, because it's hard to improve on perfection. The 75th edition is now published. But looking at the new edition, I came to realize there's one big difference now. "The Joy" always has the number of servings each recipe makes. Do you know, a recipe that served six when I first got those books, now serves only four? Isn't that incredible? Have you noticed the size of bakery cookies now? Completely bizarre. |

I sometimes go out for lunch at a local cafe here. The food is standard, the owner a superb hostess. They always laugh tenderly at me there. I have the child's portion of food! Most places don't allow that, but I love to go there, because that's all I can eat, without wasting any food.
But wow! I cannot believe how much food people put away in their bodies. And forget the myth that seniors eat like sparrows! Everyone wants quantity. You've heard them say, "you should see how much they serve!" With great excitement. It's not the quality that's important. It's the quantity.
Going back to those buffets, they regularly prepare way more food than is calculated to be needed. An extra 30% apparently. It's a cardinal sin to run out of food. After all, you can always toss the remaining huge amount right into the dumpster. At least you'll know they had plenty of food.
So I'm asking you. Do you think we eat too much food now? Or is it the type of food that's causing big bulges?
