In the vegetable area there's not much good to report. My first batch of tomatoes turned blue with cold as soon as they went into the outside world. They were too polite to actually say anything, but their color, shivering and refusal to grow at all spoke volimes! I finally replaced them a couple of days ago, and even the new ones still don't look particularly excited about growing.
Although the skies are blue, there always seems to be a cold undertone in the breeze at this time.
My poor mason bees suffered losses this year. It seemed to me many were eaten by a predator before they'd really had a start in life. But the ones that were left have worked themselves into a pollinating frenzy, and I can see by their activity in their little house that they have managed to multiply with great vigor. The main beneficiaries seem to be the little apple and peach tree. The bees did such a good job there that I have just had to thin the fruit.
Following is a very short video of how I did it!
Thank you for following my gardening efforts. Summer does this to me! Even though I know things are far from being okay in the world, I have to feel enormously happy and appreciative of my tiny corner in it.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, however you may be spending it.
