I haven't yet figured out how to keep some of my homegrown veggies through the winter. Obviously it would be just perfect to have a root cellar...but no basement in this one floor, home here. Next best would be some kind of box in the ground. I say ground using that term loosely. Here it's mostly rocks! It's hard to dig your way through them, and that's how and why the raised beds came about. But I'm still hoping to complete some backyard landscaping this year, and the tiny root cellar will be high on the bucket list for that.
New thinking gives new results
Innovation...it's what propels you forward when things seem challenging. It's what is needed just before you give up and say “I can't do it.” It's that bit of rebellious quirkiness that sometimes is needed to make the impossible possible. It's adding the salt and pepper to ho hum times in life, and spurring you on to figure out how to improve them.
About a hundred years ago some mad astronomers came up with the idea of sending out signals into outer space. The hope was some others on one of the other zillion planets would go “aha!” And send some back. So now they've continued on with that project all this time. But the gang on this planet have meanwhile been innovating like crazy, and it's a case of perhaps never catching up with times because of the distance between planets.
The exponential growth of innovation on almost everything you can think of is likely to continue through successive generations. It must be just the way we’re wired - almost frenetically searching for something better, something newer, something faster. It doesn't end.
It's amusing to think my plans for innovation of a root cellar actually go back to slower times, when resourcefulness and connection to home grown and preservation were much simpler, just as life was. Nothing better than the old root cellar to keep those veggies through the winter. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
Horse Biscuits--are they the new thing?
If you like mustangs, or horses of any type, this nature-loving gal from her ranch in New Mexico will delight you with her unique ability to "tell it like it is." She's chatty, and fun. You won't see writing like hers anywhere else! That's a promise.
