Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working. Pablo Picasso.
It’s a good thing to keep Pablo’s observation in mind. Inspiration to write, paint, or any other arty occupation often seems to come from nowhere, but you have to be actively seeking it.
Maybe you’re just staring at your computer screen, fingers drumming as you think what to write, or just thinking, but even that counts as work. Your goal is to find inspiration staring you in the face! |
The hall had been turned into a gallery! There, beautifully arranged on the walls were pictures that Wally had created through the years. Everyone gasped at the pointillism beauties on display, most of which they had never seen before.
Wally is so humble about his art, and usually after completing one of his works he tends to frame it, then wrap it carefully and store it, often under his bed! It’s as if the idea of selling it simply does not occur to him.
Wally, always supported by his long-time lady friend Kay Jaeck, welcomed us. We’d all had a chance to look at his incredible, patient pointillism handiwork adorning the walls.
Then he announced there would be a lottery. Anyone whose name was called could select one of his pictures as his gift to them. Soon it became obvious that everyone was going to be called - multiple times, until all the pictures were gone.
If you ever wanted to amaze, awe, inspire and fill your friends with gratitude that would last a lifetime, this would be the way to do it!
Come along with me, and enjoy Wally's gifts. He is a pointillism artist, so remember that each of these pictures is composed entirely of tiny, precise dots. They take many months to complete.

Walter J. Smith: Pointillism
An artist and sage
A few weeks later Wally was sorting out his earlier works from different periods in his artwork. I was the lucky recipient of a rooster oil painting, just perfect for the sunroom, and a delicate little watercolour.
Obviously it’s well known among local artists, because it’s jam-packed with gorgeous paintings waiting to be collected or sold. Framing is super affordable too!
Could this ancient tree be, I thought, the way we are meant to be? Stubbornly holding on, through ups and downs in life. Keeping enough for ourselves, but giving out to life and the people that arrive in it on our journey?
I did take these shots, just to give you an idea of the tree size.
