Food scientists have to have one of the most mysterious jobs in the world. Their evaluations, tests, results and horn-rimmed, white-coat-delivered sage advice have bamboozled eager food consumers for decades, if not also a couple of centuries before that. It's come to a point now that most folks have developed a cynical distrust of food scientific studies. Of course that's probably one of the healthiest things to do! |
Very long ago I decided mother’s advice, that she learned from her mother, seemed the best way to go. She believed a wide variety of any food that came our way was best. I've unwaveringly tried moderation in all eating too, except chocolate ( which is now good for you by the way!) No moderation there! I love veggies, and fortunately they've never campaigned against those either.
Oh dear, those food scientists have done numerous studies on the low-fat, high-carb diet. That's the one you've probably been following for a few decades now. Apparently now that was one of the bad studies. It has no effect on body weight or disease risk over the long term.
Remember when they told us to eat small meals, often? Well, apparently that wasn't true either. Sadly, that seems to make no difference to dieters. There are even studies showing that eating too often can be harmful… a new study came out that more frequent meals dramatically increased liver and abdominal fat on a high calorie diet.
Use convenience appliances, not food!
People have got used to convenience, packaged foods. This is where I have grave mistrust. All the allergies now seen, the diseases that were either uncommon or very rare, are escalating at an amazing rate. I'm not a scientist, so my word means nothing. But my instinct is to avoid these alien, chemical laden foods as much as possible.
If it's manufactured (and there's a long list on the label that usually gives you a heads up on this) I don't want it. But as you take note of the supermarket aisles devoted to them, you realise eating habits have changed, just like the body types of a lot of the shoppers who patrol those inner shelves in a market.
Short and sweet...
My favorite food today!
Thanks for visiting and wishing you a wonderful and prosperous week!
