It's called divergent thinking. That's when you have a thought, and it reaches out into another one, and another, until it's a spiderweb of thinking so complex that you just can't even relate it to the original tiny one! Many writers have this type of brain. Maybe that's true of all artists, I don't know.
It doesn't matter who you are, what race or country you're in. Thinking is the great leveler. And when you combine that with a willingness for action...well, that’s when the magic happens! And our internet is always available to be the catalyst for action. |
What you may not know about indie writers
Like everything worthwhile, writing online takes lots of practice to make it work. You soak up the experiences of others, those who've made it to the big time. You read, you research, you make some mistakes. It's often like panning for gold - usually just tiny flakes that you might be lucky enough to find. The nuggets stay just out of reach for the most part.
Technology is in a constant state of offering more and more. Each update causes ructions as millions of sites struggle to keep their precious rankings with Google, often to the great detriment of those wanting to make an online living. You can bet those Google tech engineers don't get too much sleep! They're as much involved with everyone else about rushing to the front if the line!may not know about indie writers
Take my word
Share, share, share!
Once you start getting loyal readers something else happens. You develop a reciprocal loyalty and responsibility to them. I'd have to be seriously unwell not to publish on Mondays and Fridays, because it's expected of me. And I'm grateful to those folks who give up their time to read my work.
The way forward
It's exciting, being part of the magnificent worldwide web. Your writing can touch the most unexpected people, in all corners of the globe. All it takes is the willingness to get a PayPal account, push a couple of buttons, and receive so much gratitude from your chosen blogger. And that blogger, knowing the importance of sharing, is going to find someone else’s site they like and tip their jar.
Regarding different continents...there are other unexpected bonuses of joy you can receive when you give a small amount. Talent exists in all countries. When you tip a writer in the Phillippines for instance, know that even one dollar can buy one kilo ( 2.2 lbs) of rice for a family. Same in lots of countries that have a great exchange rate differential. So look for the tip jars on sites you love. You're giving to the world, not only to them. Because it's all about paying it forward.
We truly are the world.
