Food, funds, and how do you get there?
Turkey, and ham, are high on the list, or vegetarian representations of them are popular. Side dishes invariably feature marshmallows, yams or creamy salads. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll still enjoy these. But why only on these prescribed days? And who says you can’t eat curried prawns and saffron rice instead of turkey?
Panic is…
Try going through all of that on a regular basis, then being stuck for hours while you wait for our notoriously unreliable ferry as the final punctuation mark in your day.
We won’t talk in-depth about expense, but it is always there, as you cheerily hand over your plastic card for its electronic miracle reduction in your personal bank account.
Some stats
I’ve always encouraged my family to oppose these particular pressures. This can be tough to do when all folks around you are apparently rejoicing, on one particular day designated by the government.
So it should be entirely possible to choose another day that suits a family, and have the celebration then.
How about the others?
It’s easy for those of us who have so much, to think of things we’re grateful for. Harder though for folks who have very little, or those who lose everything they’d counted on being there for the rest of their lives. Natural disasters seem to happen more frequently these days. World politics certainly do not add to feelings of security in the general population.
So we go back to the importance of people in our lives, whenever your thanksgiving day is.
Follow the leader and find big-time stress!
These heavily promoted days, filled with shopping “needs”, and the urge to travel and find your group can make huge negative inroads on your psyche and your wallet. Not to mention the hassle of overcrowded highways and airports. Everyone else seems to be dutifully obeying the siren call of their groups
Reality sets in the day after mandatory Thanksgiving. Turkeys drop in price, as do hams. Maybe another reason to make your own group celebration days?
This is what is really good about using technology for a get-together. You can organize any arrangements from a distance. That’s something to really give thanks for.
The more, the merrier!
Whenever you choose to have your next Thanksgiving celebration, please find ways to make it more about the people who attend, rather than the food and drink.
Encourage your friends and loved ones to express things they are thankful for. Being reflective and grateful can have a powerful influence on your little corner of the world.
Thank you as always for reading my work. You are always greatly appreciated. Is it possible to love and care about others who are far away?
Yes.
Wanna make me happy, and influence other folks in the crowd that read?

Dry ground
I’m hoping we’ll get rain soon as I’ll need to go out and give them cupfuls of grey water pretty soon from collecting shower and sink water. A fully-fledged drought here!
